Dr. Laura Cruz is a highly skilled Sport and Exercise Medicine Physician with almost 30 years of experience. She holds a background in Family Medicine and has specialized in sport and exercise medicine since 1996. Dr. Cruz is renowned for her expertise in hockey, aesthetic sports such as rhythmic gymnastics, dance, and figure skating. Her patients range from club athletes to Olympic-level competitors.

Dr. Cruz has been the team physician for the Toronto Furies and league physician for the Canadian Women’s Hockey League (CWHL). She has also served as the Canadian Team physician for numerous world championships and as a physician for Figure Skating at the Vancouver 2010 and Beijing 2022 Olympic Games.

Dr. Cruz is the Medical Director and co-owner of LiveActive Sport Medicine Health and Performance, where she specializes in concussion management, injury prevention, and regenerative medicine.

Her practice is focused on return to sport and injury prevention, and she is a local sport concussion consultant. In addition, Dr. Cruz is on staff at Women’s College Hospital and St. Joseph’s Health Centre.

Dr. Cruz is a member of the University of Toronto Sport and Exercise Medicine fellowship committee and an active teacher of medical learners. She is also a member of the York University Lions Sport Medicine Team. Her commitment to teaching is demonstrated through experience as a former Assistant Program Director for the University of Toronto Department of Family and Community Medicine PGY3 Sport and Exercise Medicine Fellowship committee.

She has a particular interest in the care of healthy active women, including osteoarthritis, osteoporosis, exercise and pregnancy, and the Female Athlete Triad. Dr. Cruz is a core physician with Skate Canada, a consultant with Hockey Canada Women’s Programme, and a Past President of the Canadian Academy of Sport and Exercise Medicine.
