Chronic back pain is one of the leading causes of disability, and one of the most common issues we see in clinic. The chronicity of pain means that your system has (for a while) both received and provided ineffective communication loops to and from the nervous system and tissues in the body. In order to truly re-program out of such injuries one needs to create awareness, strength and endurance in the deep stabilizing muscles of the body to help teach control movement without pain signals. This takes thousands of repetitions, and requires time invested to build on the deep system and create control through everyday life. Based on your unique history and  circumstances we will support your low back injury management and prevention through conscious connection and frequent repetition of these muscles using movements to challenge the system through a variety of means. This provides endurance and strength to using such strategies in both predictable and unpredictable situations throughout your day, to eventually become your natural unconscious pattern.

Athletics puts huge demands on the body that are often unbalanced in movement patterns, but allow one to succeed in sport and competition. However, repetitions over time of only a few limited patterns can predispose one to injury as the load and force often aren’t distributed through the system. This is where physio Pilates comes in.
