Physio-Pilates

What is Physio Pilates?

Blending manual skills, modalities such as acupuncture and strength based exercise programs with pilates can take your rehab and performance to the next level. With physio pilates, you will receive an integrated approach using principles of traditional physiotherapy with exercises that start with the influence of pilates. Exercises at the beginning of (and throughout) your program will focus on creating a stable local foundation and movement patterns that help your body move more effectively and efficiently. This base will allow you to perform more complex and powerful movements, whether this is in sport or for everyday life. Through building awareness and emphasis on this deep system, you will further better understand your body, your movements, and have a system that is prepared for your personal tasks and goals.

Stephani Oolup, a registered physiotherapist, leads the physio pilates program at LiveActive. With a unique combination of qualifications as both a pilates instructor and a physiotherapist, she brings a holistic approach to patient care, blending the benefits of both disciplines seamlessly.

Stephani integrates the principles of Pilates seamlessly into her physiotherapy practice. She understands the importance of core stability, flexibility, and balanced movement patterns, which are fundamental to both Pilates and physiotherapy.

Stephani tailors the Physio-Pilates program to address individual patient needs effectively. She understands how to modify exercises and develop personalized treatment plans that consider specific injuries, conditions, or limitations while still maximizing the benefits of each session.

Stephani guides patients through progressive exercises, promoting injury prevention, rehabilitation, and overall physical well-being. She helps patients set realistic goals and track their progress, ensuring they receive the right level of challenge while avoiding any potential risks.

With her compassionate and patient-centered approach, Stephani creates a supportive environment where patients feel motivated and empowered to achieve their goals. By blending the benefits of Pilates and physiotherapy, it allows her to provide comprehensive and effective care that promotes optimal physical function and improved quality of life.

Whether you’re seeking rehabilitation from an injury, managing chronic pain, or aiming to enhance their physical performance, Stephani Oolup’s expertise as a registered physiotherapist and pilates instructor at LiveActive can help you reach your goals.

I have been working with Stephani since 2019 for various injuries and performance goals. Most recently following a lumbar surgery she has used an integrated approach of manual therapy, acupuncture, pilates and strength exercises in my rehab program. As I have progressed in my recovery we are now focusing on not just mitigation of pain but constantly improving my movement as a whole so that I can continue in my everyday and active life to stay strong and healthy after a career on the ice.

Physio-Pilates Programs

Physio-Pilates for Low Back Pain

Chronic back pain is one of the leading causes of disability, and one of the most common issues we see in clinic. The chronicity of pain means that your system has (for a while) both received and provided ineffective communication loops to and from the nervous system and tissues in the body. In order to truly re-program out of such injuries one needs to create awareness, strength and endurance in the deep stabilizing muscles of the body to help teach control movement without pain signals. This takes thousands of repetitions, and requires time invested to build on the deep system and create control through everyday life. Based on your unique history and  circumstances we will support your low back injury management and prevention through conscious connection and frequent repetition of these muscles using movements to challenge the system through a variety of means. This provides endurance and strength to using such strategies in both predictable and unpredictable situations throughout your day, to eventually become your natural unconscious pattern.

Physio-Pilates for Athletic Performance

Athletics puts huge demands on the body that are often unbalanced in movement patterns, but allow one to succeed in sport and competition. However, repetitions over time of only a few limited patterns can predispose one to injury as the load and force often aren’t distributed through the system. This is where physio Pilates comes in. Whether you are currently in pain and trying to get back to a sport, or looking to improve performance through optimizing movement patterns, Pilates principles help to create a connection to the deep muscular system. Pilates principles focus on using local stabilizers before performing more complex tasks involving higher force producing muscles in sport to ensure these are created on a well established base. This foundation assists you in being successful in ranges required but with local stabilizer control and support to mitigate chronic sports related injuries and minimize compensation.
