Chiropody & Podiatry Downtown Toronto

Downtown Toronto Chiropodist & Podiatrist

Our foot clinic in downtown Toronto is the place where patient’s concerns are evaluated. An examination of the foot takes place to check the structural integrity, circulation, nervous system and the skin. We assess each patient’s medical history and listen to their unique story before making any diagnosis.

Chiropodists and Podiatrists are trained healthcare clinicians who examine and treat a broad range of dermatological and musculoskeletal conditions of the foot. In addition, Chiropodist and Podiatrist prescribe medications, give injections and perform minor soft tissue procedures. Podiatrist and Chiropodist differ by means that a Podiatrist can perform bone surgery and do X-rays.

LiveActive Chiropodists believe in an approach to care where the mechanics of the lower extremity is considered in the management of foot conditions. They have experience working with elite athletes, runners and the general population coping with foot pain. Our Chiropodist offers integrative care with other LiveActive clinicians to offer the best treatment plan for our patients.

Soft Tissue Surgeries

Treatment of ingrown nails isn’t complicated. A small section at the side needs to be removed so the bed under is destroyed. Treatment also involves numbing the toe. A brand-new completely straight nail edge needs to be created so the toenail gets cut. The entire toe is bandaged for a few weeks while it heals. Nail Avulsion is the surgery that can correct an ingrown nail. The nail bed is destroyed as part of this treatment by removing a section at the side. The toe needs to be numbed prior to the surgery. The toenail is then cut in a straight line to present a proper edge.

The idea is to create a thinner nail so the cells underneath need to be destroyed so they don’t regrow. The toe gets bandaged and stays that way for several weeks while the healing process is underway. Antibiotics can be used if there is an infection present before surgery. These can help alleviate any discomfort, speed along healing time and steer clear of complications.

Gait Correction with Orthotics

Sometimes foot pain can be so debilitating that it can prevent you from leading an active lifestyle. Years of walking and participating in various sports, or injury can lead to alignment issues in your body, resulting in foot pain. Our foot clinic specializes in assessing gait conditions and correcting them by creating custom orthotics in Toronto using balanced and corrected plaster models.

Wart Treatment

Warts are skin growths caused by the human papillomavirus (HPV). This virus, also known as verruca, is transmitted through touch and can spread by simply coming into direct contact with contaminated surfaces. Surfaces like pools, public showers, gyms, yoga studios, or nail salons are all places that people may get exposed. With over 100 different strains, HPV can lead to warts in various parts of the body.

Ingrown Toenail Treatment

Ingrown toenails, or those that grow inward, can cause significant discomfort. These issues may be due to genetics, trauma, or improper nail-cutting methods. Complications arise when the nail pierces the surrounding skin, leading to inflammation, pain, and potential infections.

Photodisinfection for Nail Fungus

Nail fungus, medically termed Onychomycosis, results in thickened, yellow, or discolored nails. It can be contracted from places like swimming pools, gyms, nail parlors, spas, or any fungus-friendly environment. An existing athlete’s foot infection can lead to toenail fungus and vice versa. Eradicating this infection is challenging, and even top-notch over-the-counter treatments may struggle to treat it effectively.
